  • Notes
    • Death of Mr. Robert Carter

This gentleman, whose serious illness we announced in a late issue, expired at his residence in Elora on Monday last. The case being peculiar, a post-morten examination was held on Tuesday, when it was found that the seat of disease was in the stomach, the liver being found in a healthy state. The deceased was buried on Wednesday, when the stores in the village were closed as a mark of respect, and the Presbyterian Church bell tolled. Mr. Carter was a brother of Mrs. Thomas Todd, Galt, and Mr. John Carter, Puslinch.

They built portions of the Hamilton and Dundas road and the Guelph and Elora road, After a few years in Canada, Mr. Carter went to Australia and was a successful miner in the gold fields. He returned to Canada, to remain only a short time before visiting the gold fields in British Columbia. Again, he was successful. On his return, he settled in Elora. Fifteen years ago, he married Miss Diggon of Galt, a lady who has made for herself a strong circle of friends during her residence here.
