  • Notes
    • DIEFENBACHER, Ruth Today we must say goodbye to our sweet mother, grandmother, aunt and true friend: Ruth Diefenbacher who passed away with great peace, surrounded by family on April 15, 2013. Ruth was a beautiful woman of unforgettable intelligence, thought- fulness, spirituality, elegance, style, grace and love. She was dedicated to her profession as a Registered Nurse, and as a Clinical Nursing Teacher and Clinic Coordinator at St. Mary's General Hospital School of Nursing. She lived her life serving others. In addition to her numerous professional accolades, she was involved with many charities and community organizations. Her friends will remember her most as a wonderful hostess. She perfected the art of making you feel welcome and important. Ruth was an incredible listener… this indeed will be missed! She was happiest surrounded by family, especially at her paradise up North. One of the most vivid memories of Ruth is of her watering her many gardens at the cottage. The gorgeous colours decorated the shores of Georgian Bay. Her commitment to her husband and children was paramount. She married her one true love, Nyle Diefenbacher (predeceased her in 2007) and joyfully celebrated 40 years of marriage. She is survived by her sons Darryl (Cheryl), Jeff (Jackie Sieber), Craig and daughter, Carol. Also, her brother-in-law Bob Kipp (the late Faye, her best friend and sister) and their children Lori, Lisa and Brad, and her brother Glenn (Anna) Dance. She will be sadly missed by many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their thanks to Osteopath Paul Psutka D.O.M.P. for explaining and making symptoms very tolerable during the 2 1/2 year reprieve from cancer. As well, heartfelt thanks to Dr. Stacy Hubay - Medical Oncologist - Lung Assessment at Grand River Cancer Centre, Dr. Robert Stevens - Medical Oncologist - Haematology at Grand River Cancer Centre, Dr. Donna Ward - friend and palliative care specialist. Ruth's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener 519-749-8467. A Celebration of Ruth's Life will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013, in the chapel of the funeral home, officiated by family friend, Rev. Marilyn Rushton. Reception to follow. The service will highlight how Ruth showed us all how to truly LIVE LIFE WITH CANCER. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (in support of research and patient services) was Ruth's wish. Above all, Ruth led by example, always with consideration of others. Her faith in the Lord empowered Ruth to accept her illness with admirable strength and courage. Visit www.henrywalser.com for Ruth's memorial.
