Notes |
- Henry Strickler, "son of John and Lydia (Strickler) Strickler, was born in Spring Garden Township, York County, Pennsylvania, December 25th, 1824. In 1841 he left home and went to the state of New York, near Niagara Falls, where he was working with the carpenters until September 1842, when he left and travelled north as far as Preston, Ontario, where he made his home with old Mr. John Bear. Here he was engaged in working at his trade and was also in the service of old David Reist as sawmiller until the great freshet carried away the dam. From here he went and hired to Michael Fisher for whom he was engaged as foreman for some time. On October 14th, 1845, he was married to Elizabeth, daughter of David and Elizabeth (Bechtel) Histand. She was born September 13th, 1822. At present they reside about one mile east of Kossuth, Ontario. They have had a family of five children"
