- FISCHER, Alta Mae (nee Snider) - Passed away at The Westmount Nursing Home, on Friday, July 29, 2005, in her 91st year. Beloved wife and lifelong companion of 64 years of the late Albert John Fischer. Loving mother of Murray (Nancy) Fischer of Kitchener, Eleanore (Terry) Knarr of Holland Centre, Carol (the late Gottlieb) Pedde of Everett, Washington, Bruce (Betty) Fischer of Kitchener, Gail (Michael) Fischer-Holthuysen of Vancouver, B.C., Brenda (Robert) Becker of New Dundee, Donna (Carder) Gropp of Kingston and Debbie Fischer of White Rock, B.C. and brother Art Snider (Joan) of Fergus. Sadly missed by 22 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and brother-in-law, Robert Halcrow. Predeceased by her parents, Walter and Mary (nee Krampien) Snider. One brother, Blake Snider and two sisters, Olive Baechler (the late Ted) and Miriam Halcrow. Alta's passion was her husband and family. She enjoyed word searches, bingo, visits from family and friends and was an avid gardener in her younger days. Before moving to the retirement residence, Alta and Albert enjoyed trips to the Waterloo Recreation Centre for Senior Day. She was also a longtime member of Bridgeport United Church. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of The Westmount for the loving care of Mom over the last two and a half years and to Rev. Randy Magnus of Roseville United Brethren and Rev. Brenda Woodall of Bridgeport United Church for their visits and ongoing support. At Alta's request, cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to share their memories of Alta during a memorial visitation on Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. at the Westmount Funeral Chapel, 1001 Ottawa Street South (at Westmount), 743-8900. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel, on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at 1 p.m.Donations to the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre would be greatly appreciated by the family.
