- JOHN D. MURRAY
John Diamond Murray, well known resident of Wilmot Township, died Thursday. August 1 in St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, following a brief illness. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Murray and was born in Wilmot where he farmed all his life.
He was a member of Chesterfield United Church, a member of the board of stewards and was secretary of the trustee board since 1938.
Mr. Murray also served on the Wilmot Township school board for 11 years, seven of them as chairman. He was chairman of the health and nurse committee of the North Dumfries and Ayr school area, and represented New Hamburg on the Waterloo Historical Society from 1959 to 1967.
A breeder of Clydesdale and hunter horses, he was awarded the Governor-General's Cup and a silver medal from the Hunters Improvement and National Light, Royal Winter Fair in 1938. He was also awarded a silver medal from the Hunters Improvement Society in England.
Mr. Murray served as judge of horses at many local fairs.
Surviving are his wife, the former Rosetta Kuntze; one daughter, Mrs. W.R. (Constance) Shewalter of Willowdale; one sister. Clara Murray of Hamilton, and two grandchildren.
The service was held at the Bruce J Omand Funeral Home, New Hamburg, August 4 and burial was in Riverside Cemetery, New Hamburg.
