    • ELLIS, EDWARD "NED"

News has been received here of the death Edward Ellis which took place at his home at "Pleasant Home", near Tenlon, Manitoba on July 28, 1910, of Bright's Disease. He was the third son of the late Thomas Ellis and was born in Puslinch Township 62 years ago. He will be remembered by many residents of Puslinch as a young man of sterling integrity and determination to battle life's trials. He left for the west many years ago, to engage as a surveyor, during which time much of the western provinces were laid out and defined through his untiring efforts. He was a member of Sir Garnet Wolseley's force in the Red River expedition in 1870, serving a second term in the North West, then serving in the boundary line surveying expedition, westward to the Rockies. He then located his land, upward of a thousand acres. He married and settled on some of his land, afterward served under General Middleton in 1885, when Riel was finally run down, Ned being one of those who kept with him on the trail, as he tried to shake himself loose from the Canadians and the man with the gatling gun and make his escape. Mr. Ellis leaves a faithful and efficient helpmate, Maggie, and a large family, most of whom are grown up.
