  	Rouse also sought to become the first mayor of Cambridge. He won the most votes in the Galt area, but placed second overall to Claudette Millar, the mayor of Preston. Millar would go on to serve four terms as Cambridge mayor (not in succession) and today is a Region of Waterloo councillor representing the city. When his term as mayor ended, Galt councillors gave Rouse a vacation trip to Hawaii. But before he and his wife, Morva, could go, he became seriously ill.
