- Elmer S. Stoltz
A former resident of this area, Elmer Stanley Stoltz, passed away at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, Thursday, June 23, 1994, in his 90th year following a stroke suffered April 17 at Simcoe Terrace Retirement Home, Barrie, where he and his wife resided since December, 1992. A son of the late Albert and Lucinda (Snyder) Stoltz, Elmer was born February 4, 1905 in Wilmot Township, Waterloo County. The family lived at Roseville for many years as did Elmer and Margaret (nee Shelby) following their marriage May 25, 1935 in Roseville United Brethren Church. Moving to Alliston area in 1947, Elmer was herdsman at the W.H.C. Ruthven dairy farm which he later purchased also sold, moving to town to retire in 1956. However, he achieved his wish to have the late Dr. Walker's home converted to six apartments, also accepted other employment until forced to retire due to health problems. Elmer never neglected farming operations but was challenged by judging competitions and took pride in owning and showing purebred livestock. The many tangible awards attest to his many achievements. Elmer participated in activities of community and church and retired teachers in the area will recall him serving on school board. Besides his beloved wife of 59 years, he is dear father of Ronald and Lucille of Cambridge, Anne and husband Joe of Bell Ewart and Allan and wife Linda of Cambridge. Beloved grandfather of Barbara and husband Steve Gray of Alliston, Wendy and husband Michael Harris of Kitchener, Mark Haddock of Kitchener also Darren and wife Wendy. Stoltz, Jennifer, Michael, Jillian, Matthew and Jeffrey Stoltz all of Cambridge also loving great 'Poppa' of James Norman Gray and baby brother Adam Elmer. Predeceased by daughter Betty Lou (1948) and brother Roy (1975). Nephew Will Stoltz of Roseville gave meaningful tribute during services in Alliston also Roseville United Brethren Church where Rev. Ruth Snider officiated on Monday, June 27 at 11 a.m. Interment Roseville Cemetery.
