Mrs. Ellen Jamieson
For some 20 years a modest sign bearing the above name appeared in front of a little store on Main street, near to Ainslie.
Morning after morning for these years the door of the store was regularly opened to purchases, and behind the counter was to be seen an active woman, with a cheerful face, ready to deal out the desired articles from her scanty yet varied collection.
But a change has come; the dread messenger has done his work; the sign is removed; the store passed into other hands, and that body rests in the silent grave.
For a few weeks she had not enjoyed her usual health, and this indisposition terminated in paralysis and on Saturday morning she was found lying helpless on the floor of her room. She lingered until Tuesday morning, when death ended her suffering.
Mrs. Jamieson was noted for her kindness to the poor, often supplying their wants from her little store for weeks at a time, and to her interest in the sick not a few can personally testify.
Mrs. Jamieson, whose maiden name was Ellen Corrie, was born in Dumfries, Scotland, and was in her 72nd year, though few thought her so old.
Among other friends who were present during her sickness and funeral was her brother, Mr. John Corrie, of Ingersoll.
