- "Scotty" Ainslie Dies Suddenly
Robert "Scotty" Ainslie well known former senior and intermediate baseball player dropped dead on North Water street at around 2 p.m. today.
Mr. Ainslie, who was an employee of Scroggins Shoe Co. became ill at work early this afternoon. He was on his way to see a doctor, it was said, when death occurred. An employee at the plant had offered to drive him to the doctor's office but Mr. Ainslie said he preferred to walk.
The late Mr. Ainslie was popular with local sport fans and those with whom he played baseball in former years. News of his sudden death came as a shock to all who knew him. Mr. Ainslie was a veteran of World War II and served overseas for several years.
The late "Scotty" Ainslie was in his 45th year. He was born on August 31, 1904. He had been employed at the Scroggins Shoe Co. since 1935 with the exception of the period he served in the Canadian Army.
He was one of the first to enlist in the H.L.I. of C. and held the rank of corporal when he went to England with the unit. Since the war he had been active in the H.L.I. Asociation. At the time of his death he was president of the Galt branch of the association.
Mr. Ainslie was a son of Robert Ainslie, chief operator at the waterworks pumping station. He lived with his father at 100 Victoria Ave.
