EDEN MILLS.
Mr. Henry Hortop, of Eden Mills, and Mr. James Hortop, of Toronto, returned Saturday evening from Chicago, where they assisted at the funeral obsequies of their brother, the late William Hortop, on Wednesday last. Mr. Hortop died at El Reno, Oklahoma Territory on October 6th.
William Hortop was a son of the late Henry Hortop, of Eden Mills. His father was one of the pioneer millers of these parts, and William was engaged in the same business for some years. More recently he lived in Guelph, where he bought grain and also carried on a flour and feed store. Fourteen years ago Mr. Hortop removed to the States, settling first in Sioux City, and afterwards in Chicago, where he lived for ten year. Last summer he went out to Oklahoma and established a successful real estate business there. He had been ill only six weeks.
Deceased married Jane Ewart, a member of a well known Nassagaweya family. His wife predeceased him. Four children survive, two girls and two boys. Harold, Oscar and Daisy live in Chicago and Rose in Waka, Texas. Two brothers, Henry, of Eden Mills, and James, of Toronto, and one sister, Mary, in Brantford, are also left to mourn his decease.
