    • Obituary of John Aumann Paper Unknown:

John Aumann was born in Hesse-Darmstadt, Prussia Nov. 9th, 1843, and departed this life in Council Bluffs, Iowa, March 24th, 1907, being 63 years, 4 months and 15 days old at the time of his death. He came to America in 1857, in company with two brothers. He took up his residence in Bridgeport, Canada where he learned the trade of blacksmithing and where in the year 1867 he was married to Magdalena Eby.

In 1878 he removed with his family from Canada to Marion, Kansas. There he followed his trade almost continuously more than a quarter of a century. He spent a portion of one year in the State of Washington and one in Omaha, prior to his removal from Marion to Council Bluffs a little more than two years ago.

He and his good wife travelled life's highway together for more than forty years. Seven children, three sons and four daughters, came to bless their union, all of whom are living, save one, the eldest son, Edward Leander, who was laid to rest in Walnut Hill cemetery, from this little home eleven months ago this very day of the month.

John Aumann was an industrious and hard working man, He was generous to a fault, frank and open in expression, and loyal to those he might need his assistance. He won and held the esteem of many friends.

He had been in failing health for several months. His last days were of uncomplaining suffering, his chief concern in being not himself, but the welfare and comfort of those about him.

Surrounded by his loved ones; conscious almost to the last; breathing tender farewell messages to those about his bedside and for those who could not come; expressing perfect resignation to his approaching dissolution; peacefully as a babe falls asleep, he took a last long look upon the scenes of earth, and passed into the "Great Beyond" His end was peace. His memory will be revered.
