Notes |
- Norman H. Bennett Passes
One of Ayr's best known residents, Norman H. Bennett, passed away Thursday at South Waterloo Memorial Hospital in his 80th year. He was born in Oshawa and resided in Galt for some years before coming to Ayr. For 25 years he successfully operated a hardware store in the premises now occupied by Kress of Ayr. He sold the business to William McKenzie following World War II and accepted the position of postmaster. He served in this capacity until his retirement in 1953. Mr. Bennett was an adherent of Knox United Church and was active in the Galt Curling Club. For several years he had assisted in the work of the Ayr Horticultural Society in maintaining the various plots and beauty spots about the village. He is survived by his wife, the former Estelle Maus; three brothers, Charles of Oshawa, Frank, Sault Ste. Marie, and Lewis of British Columbia. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former May Green, in 1948.
The Funeral
Funeral service was conducted on Monday from Kipp Funeral Home, Paris, by Rev. D. E. Willis. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Ford and Neil Hancock; Neil, Roy and .Robert Bennett, and Donald Bruce.
