Notes |
- Samuel Eby, "("Saddler Sam") the youngest son of John Eby, was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, June 27th, 1790. He was one of the original settlers of Waterloo County, Ontario, Canada. In the year 1817 he, with other relatives and friends from his native state, settled in Berlin, Ontario. He soon afterwards made his home on a farm near Preston, Ontario, where he remained until 1844, when he returned to Berlin and worked at his trade of harness-making. In 1850 he moved to Colborne, Huron County, Ontario, where he occupied a farm until 1856, and then moved to Conestogo, Ontario, where his wife died in 1862. By this time he was getting up in years, and soon after went to live with his eldest son, Jonas, in Elora, Ontario, where he remained until 1865, then he made his home with his third son, John, at Wyandot, Ontario. Here he remained until the time of his death, which occurred August 8th, 1878. He attained to the mature age of 88 years. On July 27th, 1813, he was married to Elizabeth Brigel, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. They had a family of eight children"
