Passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at his residence Nithview Community, New Hamburg in his 82nd year. Verne was born in Wellesley, Ont. on June 9, 1935, son of the late Adam and Christina (Wagner) Hammer.
Beloved husband of Joyce (Meyer) Hammer with whom he had celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Dear father of Cheryl (Jim) Lee and Jeff (Mary).
Proud grandfather of Tim Lee and Greg Lee (Kayleigh). Loving great-grandfather of Madison and Keaton Lee. Remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Sadly missed by his brother Bill (Jane) and sister Doreen Groff. Verne was predeceased by brother-in-law Merle Groff.
A graduate of Waterloo Lutheran University, Verne continued his education as he pursued a solid career in business, advancing through Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Dominion Electrohome Industries.
He then joined Collier Macmillan Canada in Galt, Ont. Verne moved to England as Deputy Managing Director of Collier Macmillan International, returning to Canada as President of Collier Macmillan Canada.
He also lectured for and became President of the Canadian Institute of Certified Administrative Managers. Verne furthered his career by opening his own business, lnterprint Services.
Always an avid sportsman, retirement allowed him to compete in curling and lawn bowling. Verne was active in his church as well as The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 532, New Hamburg and Retired Business and Professional Men's Club of Kitchener, Waterloo.
Verne's family will receive relatives and friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday May 25, 2017 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A celebration of Verne's life will take place on Friday May 26, 2017 at 1:30 pm at the funeral home. Reception to follow.
