  • Notes
    • This outline was provided to the editor by Miss Olive Shantz, a dau. of Christian and Magdalena Shupe. It was based on information she received from Mrs. John Janes of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The note enclosed , in part, reads as follows:

"If you want to know more about our family I will try to get the information for you and send it. I would have to have help on it as we are scattered New York State, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary etc.

These facts are not accurate as I should like but they are the best I can do. We haven't been in touch with them for years, some never.

There must have been other Shupe's too. I remember my mother telling me about Charlie Shupe who taught her at school. She went to Perry's Corner, and also what was known as Hallman's School, which we all attended. This would be after 1860 sometime as she was born 1856.

The Charlie Shupe was related to her and came from Niagara Peninsula (the Twenty's) I think Shupe may have been spelled Shoup or Shoop. Those are likely the same name. I don't know where the Holm's came in. There are Holm's in Roseville, also Hespeler. I don't know of any history of the Shupe Family being made. I remember uncle Menno saying that some Shupe from one of the Western States was thinking of writing up the family but never heard any more about it."
