- MCINTOSH, ANGUS Killed on the Railway
Donald McIntosh received the sad news from Winnipeg on Wednesday, June 11, 1890, that his brother, Angus had been killed at St. James on Tuesday, while performing the duties of brakeman on the Canadian Pacific Railway. He was engaged on a work train and was applying the brake of a car. He had a stick through the brake wheel for the purpose of securing increased leverage and was twisting vigorously, when the stick broke and he was thrown between the cars. Death resulted instantly. His body was immediately brought into the city and taken to Thompson's Undertaking establishment to await burial. Mr. McIntosh was a stalwart man between 25 and 30 years of age. He came to Manitoba from Galt, ON eight years ago and was employed for six years as assistant engineer in the Vulcan Iron Works, He has been employed as a brakeman on the C. P. R. for about a year. The news cast a gloom over the whole neighbourhood, as he was well known and highly respected. His body arrived at Schaw Station Monday night on the evening train, was removed to his father, Alex McIntosh's residence in Crieff and was interred at Crieff Cemetery on Thursday, June 17.
