- Aged Brown City Woman Dies Of Accident Injuries
Sarnia, Nov. 27-Mrs. Salome Kalbfleisch, 93, resident of Brown City for 69 years died Tuesday in St. Joseph's Hospital of injuries suffered in an automobile - train crash near Sarnia the morning of Nov. 2.
Mrs. Kalbfleisch was injured when the car in which she was a passenger, driven by her son-in-law, Gideon J. Foster, also of Brown City, was struck by a southbound Canadian National passenger train at a crossing in Sarnia Township. Other passengers in the car, were Mrs.
Kalbfleisch's daughter, Mrs. Clara Steinkopf and Mrs. Foster.
The dead woman was a charter member of the Brown City Baptist church and had been active in its affairs until the time of her injury.
She was born Salome Poth, Nov. 8, 1853 in New Dundee, Ont. She married John Kalbfleisch, Sept. 1 1873. Three years later the couple moved to Michigan, settling in Burnside Township. They moved Brown 1911, Mr. Kalbfleisch died in 1929.
She is survived by one son Edward Kalbfleisch and two daughters, Mrs. Steinkopf and Mrs. Foster, all of Brown City; three brothers, Herman Poth, Brown City and Phillip and Fred Poth, both of New Dundee; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in her home in Brown City with Rev. Donald Olsen pastor of the Baptist church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
