      Passes at Waterloo

      Rev. William John Yager, a former pastor of the New Hamburg Evangelical Church, passed away at his home in Waterloo on Friday, December 23rd. He was in his 76th year and had been ill for several months. The late Mr. Yager served as a pastor for the Canada Conference of the Evangelical Church for 49 years, retiring in 1936, after completing his pastorate at the St. Jacobs church, and moved to Waterloo. The other parishes he served during practically half a century in the ministry were Pembroke, Sebringville, Waterloo, Dashwood, Hespeler, Campden, Zurich, Hanover, Stratford, and Ottercliffe. Rev. Mr. Yager was presiding elder of Crediton district of the Evangelical Church from 1923 to 1925. In his later years he was a member of the Masonic order. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Yager, he was born in New Hamburg. He was the last surviving member of a family of seven. Mr. Yager was married to Sybilla C. Litt, of Sebringville, in 1899. Rev. and Mrs. Yager observed their 49th wedding anniversary, Nov. 20th. He is survived by his wife and one son, Clarence W. Yager, Detroit, Mich. The late Mrs. John Wing, Mrs. (Senator) Valentine Ratz, of New Hamburg, and the late Valentine Yager, of Shakespeare, were sister and brother of the deceased. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon with service at Emmanuel Evangelical church, Waterloo. Interment took place in the Sebringville cemetery. Rev. H. A. Kellerman, pastor of the Waterloo church was in charge of the services, assisted by other pastors of the district.
