Notes |
- Edward Roat, "followed harness making for a number of years but owing to the small profits derived from the business, he quit harness making and commenced life as a commercial traveller. At present he is travelling for D. Hibner & Co., manufacturers of parlor furniture, etc. Mr Roat was first married to Maggie Wilson and after her decease to Hanna Master, widow of the late Jacob Levan. He resides in Berlin and has a family of several children."
Eby, Ezra E. (1895). Death of Furniture Traveler
The death of one of Ontario's oldest and best known commercial travelers occurred recently when Edwin Roat passed away at his home in Berlin, Ont. He was born in that city, and was in his sixty-ninth year. During the past twenty-eight years he had been representing the D. Hibner Furniture Co., and previous to that time traveled extensively throughout the Dominion and the States for the Jacob Y. Shantz Button Works. He was buried with Masonic honors. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Huber, New York city, and Mrs. Mary Waugh, Guelph. Three daughters, Florence, Margaret and Laura of Berlin, and one son, Edwin Charles, Philadelphia, also survive.
