- Michael Gingrich passed away at the home of his son, Jacob, in this city October 2. Although having been in ill health for a year past, the end was quite unexpected. Mr. Gingrich was dressing and was suddenly taken with heart trouble and called for assistance. He died before aid could be given.
Mr. Gingrich was born in New Hamburg, Canada, in 184 and in 1865 moved to Indiana. Eight years later he moved to Lincoln Township and had since made his home on the county line northwest of Reed City.
In 1871 he was married to Miss Caroline Beyler who preceded in death April 15, 1911. Seven children to the union, Ralph having died when he was three years old, there surviving being as follows, Jacob, Henry, and Arthur of this vicinity, Mrs. Alice Wilson, of Lewis, Colo., Mrs. Rose Reed of Paris, and Mrs. Caroline A. Wilbert of Lake County. Twenty grandchildren also survive.
For nearly a half century Mr. Gingrich had been vitally connected to building of this section of Michigan.He served Lincoln Township several terms as supervisor and Treasurer as well as holding school office. He was instrumental in having the Bethel Church at Pinora built.
Funeral services were held from the son's home. Monday afternoon and also from Bethel Church. Rev. W. F. Ledford Officiated.
