Came To Wallace Township From Waterloo County When Twenty-One
A Respected Farmer
After a lingering illness, the death occurred in Wallace Tp. this (Thursday) morning, Jan. 31, of Mr. Christian Horne, at his home on the second Concession. He had been in failing health for several years, and had been confined to bed for two weeks. His death occurred about ten o'clock. Born March 19, 1867 in Waterloo County, near Baden, Mr. Horne came to Wallace Township when 21 years of age. He was in his 68th year at the home of his death. Mr. Horne was a respected resident of Wallace Tp. On Nov. 26, 1889 he was united in marriage to Lavina Hallman who predeceased him Aug. 19, 1934. Surviving are 5 daughters, Mrs. Nelson Klemmer, Angila, Sask.; Mrs. Edwin Treitz, and Mrs. Isaac Matthews, third concession Wallace; Mrs. Earl Coghlin, townline east, and Mrs. Wm. Anderson, Moorefield, and one son, Mr. Wilfred Horne, third concession Wallace. One brother, Mr. Henry Horne, of Listowel, also survives. The funeral will be held from his residence,Conc. 2, Wallace, on Saturday, Feb. 2, with service at 1:30 p.m., followed by public service in Calvary Evangelical Church at 2:30p.m.. Rev. E. H. Bean, pastor of the church, will conduct the service and internment will be made in Fairview Cemetery.

"The funeral of the late Christian Horne, who passed away on Thursday morning, Jan.31, was held from his residence, second concession of Wallace, on Sat.,thence to Calvary Evangelical church for public service, which was in charge of Rev. E. H. Bean. The pallbearers were Messrs. W. H. Good, Isaiah Hallman, John Bender, Solomon Ludwig, Henry Horne and Noah Bowman. A trio was rendered by Messrs. M. F. Zurbrigg, C. B Dietrich, and Henry Opfer. Mr. and Mrs. George Dippel and Miss Verna Fisher of Kitchener were here for the funeral."

"I, Christian Horn, of the Township of Wallace in the County of Perth and Province of Ontario, farmer, do make publish and declare this my lastWill and Testament, hereby revoking and making null and void all formerlast Wills and Testaments by me at any time heretofore made and declare this only to be and contain my last Will and Testament.
MY WILL is that all my just debts, funeral and Testamentary expenses shall be paid as soon as conveniently may be after my decease.
I WILL, DEVISE AND BEQUEATH to my son Henry Wilfred Horn subject to the payments hereinafter mentioned, my farm, being the South halves of lots Number Twenty-eight (28) and Twenty-nine (29) and Thirty (30) in the Second Concession of the Township of Wallace in the County of Perth, together with all the farm stock and farming implements kept on my said farm, including the car.
MY WILL further is that my said son shall pay my wife, Lavina Horn, the sum of Two Hundred and Forty dollars a year, during the remainder of her natural life and on her death shall pay the sum of One thousand Dollars to each of my daughters, Mabel Clemmer, Della Traita, Viola Matthews, Verna Horn and Irene Horn and for the due payments there of the same is made a first lien charge and encumbrance upon the said lands and the devise thereof to my said son Henry Wilfred Horn is subject to said payments.
AND I WILL, DEVISE AND BEQUEATH to my said wife Lavina Horn all my household furniture and other household effects as her own property absolutely.
AND I HEREBY nominate and appoint my said son Henry Wilfred Horne and my wife Lavina and my daughter Verna Horn Executor and Executrices of this my Will.
IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto set my hand this Twenty-fifth day of September, in the year of your Lord one thousand nine hundred and Twenty-two." (Probate of the Last Will and Testament of Christian Horn. Entered and Registered in Book K, General Register, 13 May 1936, No.5140. Fees were $26.75. Witnesses to the Will were J.E. Terhune and Phyllis M. Hewitt.)
- Following probate, an Indenture was executed on 21 Nov. 1936 concerning the following parcels of land: (1) the south half of farm lot number 28 in the Second Concession of the Township of Wallace, containing approximately 50 acres. (2) The south halves of lots numbers 29 and 30 in the 2nd Conc., Tp. of Wallace, containing approximately 100 acres. This Indenture was between Henry Wilfred Horn and Verna Coghlin, Executors of the Will, grantors, and Henry Wilfred Horn, individually, grantee. The amount was for $3,900.00. The following heirs also executed this Indenture: (then lists the 5 sisters)
NB: the children changed the spelling of Horn to Horne (once they got to school they didn't want a surname that was 'like an old cow's horn') - Cathy Jenkins
