- SHANTZ, Vernon - Peacefully, went home to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, August 19, 2008, at Heritage House, St. Jacobs. Vernon Shantz, age 77 years of Elmira. Beloved husband and best friend of Alice (Martin) Shantz for 55 years. Dear father of Dianne and Brian Vanrabaeys of Thamesville, Doris and Murray Bisch of Wellesley, Ron and Kay Shantz of RR 1, St. Clements, Karen and Willard Brubacher of RR 2, Wallenstein, Darrell and Janice Shantz of Floradale. Also lovingly remembered by his 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Edna and Noah Bowman, Naomi and Wayne Martin, Ollie and Elsie Shantz, Orvie and Mary Shantz and brother-in-law of Olive Shantz, Edna Shantz and Ella Shantz. Predeceased by his parents, Oliver and Susannah (Martin) Shantz, and by his three brothers, Clayton, Aden and Abner Shantz. The family will receive their friends and relatives at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira on Thursday, August 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. At noon on Friday, August 22, transfer will be made to Countryside Mennonite Fellowship, Hawkesville for funeral service at 2 p.m. followed by interment in Hillside Cemetery. In his memory, donations to St. Mary's Hospital Cardiac Care Unit or Christian Aid Ministries would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy. The family expresses their gratitude to the excellent care given by the staff at Heritage House.
