A despatch from Hespeler says: A drowning occurred at 3 o'clock on Sunday afternoon at Puslinch Lake, two miles from Hespeler. Nelson Dickie, about 19 years of age, was out in a canoe along with three other boys. While they were making for the island about a quarter of a mile from the mainland, and when within fifty yards of the island, the canoe was upset. The canoe rolled over and over. The three boys managed to hang on, but Dickie went down in twelve feet of water. Dickie was the support of his widowed mother.

WERE UPSET
One Young Man Drowned at Hespeler--Three Others Escape.
HESPELER, June 21.-A sad accident occurred Sunday afternoon about 3 o'clock, when Nelson Dickie, of Hespeler, was drowned at Puslinch Lake, a popular summer resort two miles from here. The young man, who was about 18 years of age, went out in a canoe with three companions, by the names of Percy Eaton, Austen Dandeno and John Yates. The wind was very strong and the lake was rough. They wanted to get over to an island, which was a little better than a quarter of a mile away, and when within 50 yards of the shore, the canoe capsized in about 12 feet of water. The boys all came up and hung on to the side of the canoe. It would not hold them up. Only for a party of Preston young men, who were out in a larger boat, the whole party would have been drowned, as the wind was taking them away from the land while they tried to swim for shore. Nelson Dickie could not swim, and it was impossible for anyone to save him. The other boys were taken to shore almost exhausted, and a doctor was called immediately to attend them. The body was recovered at 9.30 o'clock with grappling irons which were brought down from Guelph.
