Notes |
- Philip Allgeier was born in Duren, Baden, Germany, in 1827. At the age of twelve he came to Canada with his parents who settled in Woolwich Township, near Hawkesville. In 1? the subject of this sketch was married to Mary Brubacher. In 1865 they settled in North Woolwich, where they experienced some of the hardships of pioneer life in hewing out a home for themselves; but success crowned their efforts, and in their later years they could enjoy the results of their labors in their comfortable home. After they had journeyed together for 43 years, toiling, rejoicing, and sorrowing Mr. Allgeier was called on to mourn the loss of his beloved wife. He remained on the old homestead with his son Peter, enjoying fairly god health until Feb. 11th, when he took sick. He grew gradually weaker until four days afterwards, when he passed peacefully away at the age of 76, leaving two sons and four daughters to mourn the loss of a kind father.
The funeral took place on Wednesday morning, Feb. 18th, to the Floradale Mennonite Cemetery, a large number of friends and relatives paid a last tribute of respect to an honored friend.
