- GILFILLAN, MARY ANN (Nee Horrocks)
For many years a resident of Puslinch Township, early Tuesday morning, November 30, 1926, Mrs. William Gilfillan, one of Puslinch Township's oldest and most highly respected residents who, despite her advanced age of 91 years, kept her health until a fortnight ago. At the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Tucker of Sheffield, ON. She was born in Ancaster but came to Guelph at an early age, later moving to Puslinch Township, where she spent the greater part of her life. Seventy-six years ago, when she was 15 years old, she married William Gilfillan, who was a millwright and who assisted in the construction of the County Court House. He predeceased her thirty-eight years ago in 1888. She was a life-long devout Presbyterian. Her loss is mourned by three brothers, Duncan, Samuel and George; one sister, Mrs. Semmie of Vancouver; eight daughters, Mrs. C. Tilk of Preston; Mrs. Lot Singular of Guelph; Mrs. Keene of California; Mrs. J. Tilk of Guelph; Mrs. Tucker of Sheffield; Mrs. J. Reeves of SK; Mrs. Abbott of Toronto; Mrs. Fred Loth of Barrie; and one son, William of Blenheim. Also survived by twenty-six grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren. Funeral on Thurs., Dec. 2nd at 2 from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. J. Tilk of 119 Neeve St. in Guelph. Interment Crown Cemetery, Puslinch. Pallbearers: L. Singular, Fred Steep and Victor Tilk of Guelph; William Tucker of Sheffield; Gordon Tilk of Preston; and Bert Tucker of Sheffield. Relatives were present from Preston, Toronto and Galt.
