- BURKHART, Sylvester - At Southampton Care Center, on Sunday, August 2, 2009, at the age of 87 years, Sylvester Burkhart, formerly of Port Elgin. Husband of the late Theresa and his second wife Areata Wardrop. Father of Betty Puddester and Brian Saunders of Kitchener, Donna and her husband Ralph Coombs of Brantford, Kathy and her husband Don Vanderlip of Drumbo, Jim Burkhart of Burnaby, B.C., Mike and his wife Gail of Kitchener, Lee and his wife Donna of Paris, John and his wife Janet of Williamston, Michigan, and Sheila and her husband Kevin Misurak of Salmo, B.C. Grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also survived by Wayne and Vi Wardrop, Elmer and Bev Wardrop, Harold Wardrop, and Steve and Gail Wardrop. Brother of Ibrey Burkhart of Kitchener, Ivan Burkhart of Elmira, Ozias Burkhart and his wife Alice of Drayton, and his sister Nancy and her husband Mel Bolton of Enderby, B.C. Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Rebecca Burkhart; his grandson, Thomas Misurak; and his brothers, Alan and Owen Burkhart. Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel , 510 Mill St., Port Elgin (Town of Saugeen Shores) on Thursday, August 6, 2009 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., when a funeral service will be conducted in the chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Margaret Greenhow officiating. Interment Southampton Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
