  Crushed to Death. Shakespeare, Oct. 30.\emdash Most shocking was the death of Mr. Henry Schmidt, of Philipsburg, yesterday afternoon. Mr. John Isler had his traction engine up at Harry Herold's sawing wood and Mr. Schmidt got up on top of the large wheel to pull the throttle and forget to let off the friction clutch and while he was standing on the wheel the engine ran backwards, taking Mr Schmidt around with it, his body passing through between the big wheel and the fly wheel a space 4 1/2 inches wide, and crushing his whole chest almost flat. The great corrugated wheel left its marks imprinted deeply into the poor man's chest. Peter Horst, who was working with Mr. Isler pulled the unfortunate man off the wheel after he had passed through and laid him on the grass. He just spoke a few words after the accident, and died in about an hour. Dr. Ford was called and did all in his power to relieve the poor man. Mrs. Schmidt who is the only daughter of Mr. C. Stephen Capling of North Easthope, arrived but too late to see her husband alive. The deceased, who was about 40 years of age, was a very stout healthy man, and lived in Philipsburg. He had been working with Mr. Isler for the past eight years and on the same engine. He is survived by his wife and one child aged 8, who have the deepest sympathy of the whole community a their sad bereavement
