Notes |
- David Shankland died on September 13, 2006 in Hamilton at the age of 93.
He was born on February 28, 1913 in Glasgow, Scotland, to Agnes (nee Forbes) and Thomas Shankland.
He was the eldest of six children and together with his family immigrated to Canada in June of 1926. They were granted a portion of land in Harley Township that was part of the "Soldiers' Settlement." Mr. Shankland attended S.S. #1 Harley School for a couple of years and helped out on the farm for a while before going out to work.
In the 1940s he moved to Hamilton to work for the Westinghouse Plant and in 1944 met and married Christina (Teenie) Forbes.
Mr. Shankland was predeceased by his wife Teethe in 2002, brother Gordon in 1993, sisters Susan (Mason) [Manson] in 1988 and Mary (Lomak) in 1989.
He is survived by his brother William of North Bay and sister Anne Seymour of New Liskeard.
He is fondly remembered by his family as a great letter writer, filling 20-25 pages at a time. Even though he hadn't written much in the past few years, he recently filled up a birthday card for his sister
Anne days before he died. He will be missed by his family.
