      Beckern, the sixth of May one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

      Before the undersigned registrar appeared today for the purpose of entering into a marriage contract:

      1. the miller, known to be August Scheffel of Lutheran faith, born the eighth of December fifty-eight in Schweinern, the district of Trebnitz, living in Breslau, Wesser St. No. 26 son of the "Stellenbesitzer" (it could indicate occupant of a position or ownership..) Gottlieb Scheffel, deceased in Zedlitz, the district of Trebnitz, and of his wife Johanna, nee B r i c h, now S t a h n, "Stellenbesitzer" in Jeschiitz, the distrct of Trebnitz

      2. the farmer's daughter, known to be Christianna Gerlach, of Lutheran faith, born the twenty-seventh of October of the year thousand eight hundred and fifty-nine in Beckern, the district of Ohlau, living in Beckern, the district of Ohlau, daughter of the farmer Wilhelm Gerlach, deceased in Beckern, and of his wife Elisabeth, nee Schlosser, now Dziallas living in Beckern, district of Ohlau.

      As witnesses were present and appeared:

      3. the farmer known to be Gottlieb Buhr, forty and one years old, living in Beckern, district of Ohlau

      4. the wheelwright known to be Ernst Buhr, thirty and two years old, living in Laskowitz, district of Ohlau.

      In the presence of the witnesses the registrar asked the engaged couple singly and one after the other: whether they wanted to enter into a marriage contract with one another. The engaged couple answered the question affirmatively and upon this the registrar announced that he declared them, based on the law, as legally married husband and wife.
