Eby, Ezra E. (1895). ______________
DEATH OF MRS. J. B. BOWMAN
SURVIVED HUSBAND ONLY A FEW MONTHS.
Mrs. Elizabeth Bowman, the widow of Rev. Jacob B. Bowman, and mother of Mr. A. Bowman, passed away at the latter's residence, 87 Church street, yesterday afternoon. The deceased had been ill for several weeks but the immediate cause of death was heart failure. She was her 79th year and survived only a few months her husband, who died on January 19th last in the 83rd year of his age. Their home was always in Waterloo County, and since 1883 on Church street in this town.
Mrs. Bowman, who was born on March 8th, 1831, was married to her late husband in February, 1850. From: this union, lasting nearly sixty years were born five children, of whom three predeceased the parents, Nelson in 1883, and two daughters in infancy. Beside Mr. A. O. Bowman, of the Berlin Customs, with whom the deceased recently had her home, a daughter, Mrs. (Rev.) William Hutchinson, Elyria, Ohio, survives, and also eight grandchildren, including Mrs. A. G. Box, Belmont, Manitoba, and Mrs. Fred Snider, Waterloo.
Mrs. Bowman was a daughter of Abraham Oberholtzer, an early settler in these parts, who came from Pennsylvania in 1826. He died in 1855. A sister of the deceased, Mrs. Henry Boehmer, died in 1890; her two brothers, Owen and Aaren, the latter survives and the former died in Bloomingdale in 1893. For upwards of fifty years Mrs. Bowman was a consistent Christian and member of the United Brethren church. Her uniform gentleness and kindness endeared her to many who share with her family a sense of deep loss and will long cherish her memory.
The funeral will take place on Saturday 2 p. m., at the house, and thence to the Alma street church and Mt. Hope for interment.
