- UMBACH, Elton (Shorty) - At K-W Hospital, on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 1991. following a brief illness, Elton {Shorty) Umbach, age 78 years, of Kitchener.
Mr. Umbach was a charter member of Uniroyal and latterly was with the University of Waterloo, a life member of the Waterloo Rod & Gun Club.
Beloved husband of Anne Umbach (nee Rice), dear father of Sandra Meyer and her husband Bernard, Barbara Nielsen and her husband Lars, all of Waterloo. Lovingly remembered by his six grandchildren, Randy, Rob, Tracey, Lance, Lisa and Shawn and his two great-grandchildren, Samantha. and Amanda. Brother of Lorne and his wife Marlene, Harold and his wife Grace, all of Kitchener and Elmer of Lucknow.
Predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Lloyd and Milton and sister, Reta Straus.
Friends and relatives may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 821 King St_ W., Kitchener, after 7 p.m. this evening (Wednesday), continuing until the funeral and committal service in the Ratz.-Bechtel Chapel on Friday, 2:30 p.m. Interment Memory Gardens cemetery.

The oldest in the family and probably the orneriest though a nice guy, but if my memory serves me right he was afraid of no one and let it beknown. I seem to remember that he played a real part in establishing our rights to survival in the area where we moved to after Dad's death.
Was a trucker, machine worker, rubber worker and a welder for many years. Lived on Patricia st. for many years and died there. Always friendly but rather coarse and uncouth in his language and of course always an Umbach and outrageously plain in his comments or feelings on any subject underdiscussion.
