Services were held on Monday for a well-known Guelph resident, former legionnaire and employee of the Canadian Gypsum Company, who died on Friday, January 14, 1955, in Guelph General Hospital (another account says at his home, 146 Memorial Crescent), after a lengthy illness, in his 65th year. Employed as a stationary engineer, he was with the Canadian Gypsum Co. for nearly a quarter of a century. He served in the First World War with the 75th Battalion, a Toronto group. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Guelph. Born in Puslinch, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cutting. He spent a great deal of his life in Hespeler, where he married Louise Stoddart in 1913. They lived in Hespeler until 1930, when they moved to Guelph. Survived by his wife; two sons, Melvin of Kitchener; Stuart of St. Catharines; a daughter, Lillian (Mrs. E. C. Marsh) of Elmore, OH; four brothers, Gordon, Mervin, Clarence and Walter, all of Hespeler; four sisters, Gladys (Mrs. Jack McGregor) of Galt; Sylvia (Mrs. William Roscoe), Mrs. Olive Garside and Lottie (Mrs. Bert Johnson), all of Hespeler; and ten grandchildren. Legion service was conducted on Mon., Jan. 17 at 3: 30 at the McIntyre and Wilkie Funeral Home by Jack Nevin, with E. Denver playing the Last Post. Pallbearers: W. Keleher, G. Girling(?), J. Nevin, R. Gordon, W. Glazier and C. Monday, all members of the Canadian Legion. Interment was in Hespeler Cemetery with J. W. Boyd officiating.
