- PTE. ROBERT HICKSON
Pte. Hickson is a younger brother of Sgt. George Hickson, winner of the Distinguished Conduct Medal and the Military Medal. His parents had been out, and on their return to their home last night found the telegram awaiting them.
Born in Kitchener, Pte. Hickson would have been 23 next month. He was fond of hunting and fishing. He began his military experience at the age of 16 when he joined the Scots Fusiliers reserve unit. He left his work with the Bell Telephone Co. to join the H. L. I. in May, 1940. He had been overseas, three years.
In addition to George, there are three other brothers in the service. Flt. Sgt. Harry is serving with the R.C.A.F. in the Yukon; LAC. Gerald is stationed with the R.C.A.F. on the east coast, and Pte. Gordon is with the Irish Regiment, medical section, in Italy.
Six air-mail letters received from Gordon today have cheered his parents considerably. He mentions having a short note from Bob recently.
In his most recent letter, Bob enclosed a card which indicated that the men tad received communion just before the invasion began.
Surviving in addition, to his parents and brothers are three sisters: Mrs. George Begs, Homewood Ave., Mrs. Pearlous Sievenpiper, Simeon St., and Kathryn at home.
