  • Notes
    • In his youth Charlie fell from an apple tree, injuring a leg which failed to grow to normal length. As a result, during his entire adult life he wore a metal bridge about 5 inches high on the bottom of his shoe. He still walked with a limp. He was a gardener by trade.

In 1912 Charles went west to Saskatchewan. On Sep 16, 1912 he filed a homestead entry for SW36-T29-R31-W1. Previously John Hamilton Wride, a photographer, had filed an entry for this quarter on April 27, 1910 and again on August 3, 1911, but it was again abandoned.

Mary Agnes Knox came west shortly after Charles to reside with him. On the homestead file sworn statements were made by I. N. Nummah and Harry J Welcome. RMJ Parker was the homestead inspector.

After many years of hardship, Charles returned to Galt where he was employed by the C.M.C. Plant in his old trade as gardener. Miss Knox also returned to Galt shortly after Charles. She never married.

Many years later, following the death of his brother George on 14 Dec 1940, Charles married George's widow, Elizabeth (Widrig) Falkiner, with whom he had no children.

Charles died in 1972 and Elizabeth in 1978.
