Notes - ZEHR, Helena Passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on August 27, 2015 at her home, Nithview Community, New Hamburg. Helena was born 101 years ago in Baden, Ontario and was the daughter of the late Moses and Magdalena (Gerber) Gingerich. Helena was the beloved wife of Austin Zehr (2008). Loving mother to Karen and Merv Schlegel of R.R. 1 Tavistock. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Kristy (Schlegel) and Dan Brenneman, Lindsay and Brett Zehr all of Tavistock. Great-Nan to Callie, Avery, Isaac and Adelynn. She will be missed by her sisters and brother-in-law Laurene Zehr, Emily Hughes, Lester Bechtel and many nieces and nephews. Helena is predeceased by her sisters Elmina (Noah) Brenneman and Ruth (William) Mayer, her brothers William (Viola) Gingerich and Joseph (Ruth) Gingerich. She is also predeceased by her brothers-in-law Elmer Zehr, Edward Zehr, Eldon Wagler, Amos Zehr, John Worden, Oliver Yantzi, Orval Lichty and sisters-in-law Elizabeth Zehr, Ada Yantzi, Dorothy Bechtel and Violet Zehr. Helena was a member of the Steinmann Mennonite Church in Baden. She was a member of the WMSC and enjoyed working on the farm, quilting and gardening. Friends and relatives are invited for time of visitation and memory sharing at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home , 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg, Ontario, on Monday, August 31, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A committal service will take place on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the 16th Line East Zorra Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral service following at Steinmann Mennonite Church, Baden at 11:30 a.m. with Pastors Myrna Miller Dyck and Steve Drudge officiating. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee, the Wycliffe Bible Translators (Greg and Tracy McLean) or a charity of one's choice.
