But before the bomber landed morphia had to be given him to easet the unendurable pain of his injuries, which included a fracture of the hipbone and pelvis and piercing of the abdominal organs.
Sergeant Goudy, who comes from Galt, Ontario, has been awarded the DPM for bis "indomitable spirit, fortitude, and tenacity," which, says the citation, "were worthy of the highest praise."

DFM Citation:
On a night in 1943, Sergeant Goudy was a rear gunner in Halifax bomber JB856 aircraft detailed to attack Cologne. When nearing the target the bomber was intercepted by an enemy night fighter. The bomber was hit by gun fire and sustained severe damage. At the beggining of the action Sergeant Goudy was seriously wounded, sustaining a fracture of the hip and pelvis, splinters pierced his organs and abdomen. In spite of this Sergeant Goudy refrained from informing his Captain of his injuries until another wounded comrade had received attention. During the return flight he remained constantly alert. Sergeant Goudy's indomitable spirit, fortitude and tenacity were worthy of the highest praise.
