    • HEWER, ELIZA (Nee Black)

      At the Guelph General Hospital, on Monday, March 26, 1945, aged 73 years, of 6 Alice St. in Guelph. Widow of Frederick Hewer. Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Black, she was born in Aberfoyle. Resident of Hamilton for some time, she was active in the work of the Caroline Street Mission. Survivors include four daughters and six sons: Bertha (Mrs. Harvey Porter) of Windsor; Glena (Mrs. Wes Henry) of Fergus; Hazel (Mrs. Harley Graves) of Cotham; Sadie (Mrs. Bill Patterson) of Branchton; George of Hamilton; Herbert of Paris; Frank of Guelph; Clifford of Dundas; Archie of Hamilton; Harry of Fergus; two sisters, Mrs. Belle Packer and Mrs. George Ritchie, both of Guelph; two brothers, Harry Black of Guelph; James Black of Aberfoyle; twenty-five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Two daughters, Leona and Grace predeceased her several years ago. Funeral service at the McIntyre and Greenaway Funeral Home on Thurs., Mar. 30 at 2. Floral tributes were many. Interment at Waterdown Cemetery.

      -Information from the marriage certificate: Born c. 1873, daughter of John Black and Charlotte Roberts, she married Frederick Hewer on March 13, 1894.
