Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Joan (nee Pfeiffer) for 58 years. Loving father of Sarah Totzke (Chuck), Paul Totzke (Anna) and Sue Cousineau (Cory). Fondly remembered by Anthony Cousineau. Cherished grandfather of Matthew, Carly and Luke Cousineau and great-grandfather of Jaxon Cousineau. Predeceased by his sisters Isabel and Myrtle. Dear brother-in law of Clifford Pfeiffer. Carl served as Athletics Director at the University of Waterloo for 33 years. During that time he was UW's first football coach, served as CIAU President, OUAA President, UW Faculty Club President and President of the KW Press Club. Carl was generous with his time serving on many committees. and boards including the Homer: Watson Gallery, KW Art Gallery, Waterloo Region Hall of Fame, Westmount Golf and Country Club. and Christ Lutheran Church. He was inducted into the Waterloo Region Hall of Fame, University of Waterloo Athletic Hall of Fame and Wilfrid Laurier Athletic Hall of Fame. Carl was an outstanding athlete winning 4 ORFU Football Championships as part of the KW Dutchmen and a member of the YMCA Blues which won The Canadian Basketball Championship in 1953. In his spare time, Carl co-founded Camp Catchacoma, enjoyed sailing and many other outdoor activities, sang in several choirs, and enjoyed wood working. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed. Carl's family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A private family service will be held. Interment Parkview cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Christ Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
