      Monday, February 13th, 1933 - Tuesday, May 25th, 2021

Passed away, peacefully in his sleep, on Tuesday May 25, 2021, at the age of 88 at St Mary's Hospital. He is no longer in pain and at peace with his beloved Katie. Mathias was born in Großschogen, Transylvania, Romania to parents Mathias and Maria Wolf.

Devoted father of Mat (Karen), Helmut and Karl (Gwen). Fondly remembered by his sister Rosina (Mike Emrich) and brother-in-law Mike Zobel.

Best Opa to Steve (Brittany), Spencer (Brooke) and Jacob, Christa (Eric) and Cassandra.

Grüssi Opa to Lilly, Henrik, Matthew and Lucas.

Predeceased by his parents Mathias and Maria Wolf, his beloved wife, Katharina Klein (2001) and sister Maria Zobel (2012).

Mathias emigrated to Kitchener, Ontario as a youth in 1949, along with his parents and two sisters. Mathias started working in the local shoe manufacturing industry. He had his own shoe repair business for a short while and later moved to B.F. Goodrich where he eventually retired.

Mathias was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church and Pilgrim Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Mathias was a founding member of Transylvania Club Kitchener (1951). He was involved in many facets of the TCK. He began in the first dance group in 1949, and continued by volunteering in multiple Board of Directors positions over the years. Mathias was a 60-year member of the TCK Choir, and a 65-year member of the TCK Hofbrau Band, he was a past Cultural Group and Senior Group leader, and past President of the Death and Sick Benefit fund (KUV). Mathias also volunteered with the Landsmanschaft der Siebenbürger Sachsen in Kanada. (Compatriots of Saxons in Canada)

Mathias dedicated his energy to the growth and betterment of the Transylvanian Saxon Heritage throughout his life. This culminated with the initiation, research and joint publication of the book "Transylvanian Saxons in Canada." In 2016, Mathias was awarded the "German Heritage Award" by the German-Canadian Congress for outstanding contributions to Canadian society and the preservation of the German culture and language. Mathias also received the Goldene Ehrennadel (Gold Honour Pin) as a recipient from Landsmanschaft der Siebenbürger Sachsen in Kanada.

A long, fulfilling life of dedication, accompanied by hard work and difficulties, but characterized by a positive attitude, has come to an end. Mathias, a good-hearted person and a loyal Transylvanian Saxon has left us to carry on. Mathias completed years of service to our community, and now will always remain a role model, whom we will not forget.
