Death of an Old Resident of Dumfries
There passed away, on Thursday of last week, after a short illness, Mr. Jacob R. Detweiler, aged 78 years. The deceased came to this country with his parents from Pennsylvania, when 16 years of age. He resided for a short time at Preston, when the family removed to the homestead near Roseville, at present occupied by Mr. Aaron Detweiler, his nephew. He afterwards purchased 50 acres alongside of his father's farm, where he continued to reside till the time of his death. The deceased was a shoemaker by trade, and for some years carried on that business as well as farming. He was highly respected by the residents of the township, and the funeral on Saturday last was largely attended.
