  • Notes
    • PTE. WILLIAM HAGEN

Having waited for action for a long time, Pte. Hagen found it. He enlisted three years ago and joined the parent H.L.I. unit overseas. He had been in England until the invasion started.

Written in France, one of his letters received here Saturday told of "being in high spirits and of waiting for the action for a long time." He said: "The French that I learned in school is gradually coming back," adding that chocolate bars and cigarettes were exchanged for milk and produce.

Born in Kitchener 20 years ago, he was also educated here. He was employed in Waterloo and Brantford before enlisting.

In addition to his father, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Harold Ariss, Vancouver, two brothers, Sgt. Bert, with the R.C.A.F., and Ray, on draft for the R.C.N.V.R.
