PRESTON - Arthur Frederick Chard, 1255 Queen Street, Preston resident for 47 years died at his home early this morning after a lengthy illness. He was 69. A native of Reading, England, Mr. Chard came to Preston in 1906, and with the exception of the time with the Hurlbut Shoe Company, and before his retirement 23 years ago, he was employed with the Board of Works. Surviving are his wife, Annie Palmer; two daughters, Mr. J.R. Hinrichs (Elsie) at home, Mrs. George Krieg (Gladys) of Preston, five sons, Arthur of Kitchener, Frederick of Bridgeport, Robert and Ernest of Preston and Reginald of Galt. One sister, Mrs. A. Davis of Burnaby, New Westminster, B.C. and 15 grandchildren also survive. Three sons and a daughter predeceased him. Mr. Chard is resting at the Stager-Pass Funeral Home from where the funeral will be held on Sunday at four p.m. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Preston

Arthur Frederick Chard Dies In 70th Year
Arthur Frederick Chard, 1255 Queen Street, well-known Preston, Ontario resident for the past 47 years, died at his home at 2:45 a.m. this morning after a lengthy illness. He was in his 70th year. A native of Reading, England, the late Mr. Chard came to Canada, directly to Preston, Ontario in 1906, and with the exception of the time he served in the 34th Battalion from 1914 to 1918 he resided here since that time. Deceased was wounded and gassed in the services, reasons attributed to his illness. A member of St. John's Anglican Church the late Mr. Chard was also a member of Preston Canadian Legion Branch 126. For some years the deceased was employed with the former Hurlbut Shoe, and prior to his retirement 23 years ago due to his health, he was employed with the board of works for a number of years. Surviving are his wife, Annie Palmer; two daughters, Mrs. J.R. (Elsie) Hinrichs at home, Mrs. George (Gladys) Krieg of Preston, Ontario, five sons, Arthur of Kitchener, Ontario, Frederick of Bridgeport, Ontario, Robert and Ernest of Preston, Ontario and Reginald of Galt, Ontario. One sister, Mrs. A Davis of Burnaby, New Westminster, British Columbia, and 15 grandchildren also survive. Three sons and a daughter predeceased him. The late Mr. Chard is resting at the Stager-Pass Limited Funeral Home from where the Funeral will be held on Sunday at 4 o'clock. Interment will be in Park lawn Cemetery, Preston, Ontario.
