WATERLOO REGION - One interesting fact gleaned from Laurier University's new digitized collection of William Lyon Mackenzie King's correspondence with a Kitchener mayor is the prime minister really liked russet pears.
Or, at the very least Charles Mortimer Bezeau, Kitchener's mayor from 1931-32, liked sending them to him.
"If King didn't like pears, he didn't let on," said Julia Hendry, head of archives and special collections at Laurier University......

WON PRIZES
Mr. C. M. Bezzo, the well-known florist, received word a few days ago that he had been successful in winning two second prizes in the fourth grade for asters of the great horticultural, exhibition in Syracuse, N.Y., in September. It is one of the largest exhibitions of its kind on the continent and Mr. Bezzo is to be congratulated upon his success.
