- IDINGTON, AGNES Death of Miss Idington
On Monday, September 10th 1888, at the residence of Mr. N. Higinbotham, Queen St., Guelph, aged 79 years. One more of our old and respected residents, she had been in declining health for some months but it was only about two weeks since she was taken seriously ill. From that time, she gradually sank and at last breathed her life gently away. She was born in Berwickshire, Scotland on the 4th September 1809 and came to Canada with her parents about the year 1833. They settled on the next farm to that now owned by Major Nichol of Puslinch. Having an excellent education, she took a position as governess in a private family in Brantford and in 1843 opened a private school in Guelph with her sister, the late Mrs. Worsley. After giving up the school, she resided with Mrs. Worsley till her death and since that time, some sixteen years ago, she lived with her niece, Mrs. Higinbotham. She gave most of her children their primary education and was endeared to all the family by her kind manner and gentle disposition. To the last, she was watched by every member of the family with the tenderest care and affection. In her circle of friends and acquaintances, she was held in the highest esteem. The surviving members of the family are her sisters, Mrs. McNaughton of Milton and Mrs. David Allan and her brother, Peter Idington, formerly of Fisher's Mills and now a resident of Galt. Funeral on Wednesday at 2
