  • Notes
    • Christian Prueter

One of Listowel's most prominent citizens, Christian Prueter, died Saturday in his 81st year, after an illness of nine months. He was born Oet. 19, 1855, in Logan township, Perth county, and when 17 years of age moved to Listowel. Fifty-four years ago he entered business as a harness maker on Wallace street, which he conducted until January last, when ill-health caused him to give up active work. Mr. Prueter served for many years on the Public School Board and on the Town Council. For 26 years he was on the Public Utilities Commission, being chairman for 18 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Listowel. Surviving are his wife, formerly Mary Stark of Mitchell; two sons, Fred G. Prueter, Listowel, and H. J. Prueter, of Kitchener, inspector of public schools. One brother, George Prueter of Mitchell, and one sister, Mrs. H. Benneweis of Brodhagen, also survive.
