      Mr. Michael Bender, father of townsman, Mr. George Bender, St. David st., passed away at his son's residence on Thursday, May 29th and the funeral took place on the Saturday following to Palmerston for interment. Mr. Bender was a native of the township of Woolwich, being born near Elmira. At sixteen, his father's family moved to Wallace township, Perth county, and it was here he was married to Barbara Wolfe. After a period spent in farming he retired with his family to Palmerston, which was his home for about forty years, until a couple of years ago, when he and his wife took up their home with their son. The family consist of Mr. George Bender, of town; Ezra, of Portland, Oregon; Charles William, of Moosejaw; Mrs. Hastie of Harriston, and Mrs. Ruller, of Wheatland, Man. Rev. J. W. Hedley, pastor of Victoria street Methodist church, conducted the funeral services at the house in Goderich and also at the graveside in Palmerston.
