Peacefully, at home on Sunday, October 5, 2008, John Durran in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Carole Ann, and the late Kathryn (Kay) Durran. Loving father of Jim and his wife Leslie, John and his wife Cindy, and Tom and his wife Diane. Loved grandfather of Caroline, Ryan, Mallory, Alison and Katie-Ann. Much respected second father to Kim Scott (Joanne Osborne), Katharine Durish, and Karen Durish-Cole. Special Gramps to Christopher Scott (Jennifer), Michael Scott, Jennifer Scott, Heather Cole (Dan Franey) and Alex Cole and Great Gramps to Isaac Franey and Brooklyn Scott. Dear brother-in-law of Mary Dermody, Joan Lavery, Mary Langford and Maureen Lancaster. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends, especially Dr. Ross Barlow. Predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Paul Vine, Tom Langford, Ken Lavery and Bill Dermody. John practiced Dentistry in Hamilton for over 49 years. During that time he was President of the Sertoma Club, President of the Hamilton Academy of Dentistry, a member of the Executive Council of the O.D.A. and the C.D.A., and for 17 years was President and member of the Management Committee of the C.D.S.P.I., which administered and negotiated the insurance and investment programs on behalf of the dentists of Canada. In recognition of his tireless efforts on behalf of Dentistry, John received the Barnabus Day Award for exceptional contributions to Dentistry, the C.D.A. Distinguished Service Award, and the University of Toronto Alumnus of Distinction Award. Visitation at the ?.?. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 7 East Avenue South, Hamilton, on Wednesday, October 8 from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Prayer Vigil at 4 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 11 Wilson Street West, Ancaster, on Thursday, October 9, at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), or the Juravinski Cancer Centre. Online condolences may be made through www.dermodys.com
