______________
Fred Panchuk
June 24, 1925 ~ December 31, 2016 (age 91)
Fred passed away peacefully at the Deep River District Hospital on December 31, 2016 at the age of 91. Beloved husband of 62 years to Ruth Panchuk (Hagmeier). Loving father to his children John of Vancouver, Jim (Kathy) of Perth, and Kathy Fisher (Tim) of Sylvania, Ohio. Cherished grandfather of Paul, Ian and Mattea.
Fred grew up on the ball fields and frozen ponds of western Canada and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1949 with a degree in mechanical engineering, then went on to obtain an MBA from the University of Western Ontario in 1955. He brought his love of sports to Deep River when he joined Atomic Energy of Canada in 1957. In the summers he could be found wandering the fairways in search of his next hole-in-one while in winter, when not maintaining the quintessential backyard rink or sharpening skates for friends and neighbours, he could be found coaching minor hockey, or playing with the old timers which he was instrumental in getting started.
The family would like to thank Dr. Tom Greenfield and the nurses of the Deep River District Hospital for their care over the last few months. We would like to especially thank the caring staff of the North Renfrew Long-term Care Centre and the amazing homecare team for all of the support they provided. In lieu of flowers, donations to the North Renfrew Long Term Care Centre 'Flex' program would be appreciated.
At Fred's request cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
