    • LEADER IN WOMEN'S ACTIVITIES PASSES

Newcastle deeply mourns the passing of Mrs. Ida Butler, wife of Dr. J. A. Butler, on Monday evening, March 10. People all through the village and adjacent territory feel a keen sense of loss in her death. Many did not know she had been ill for two or three days preceding her death and word of her passing brought a severe shock. Her going seems almost an irreparable loss. Being a true homemaker above all else she nevertheless found time to help, and when duty seemed to call to take a leading part in many social, church, civic, patriotic and charitable activities.

At the time of her death she was President of the Newcastle Branch of the Red Cross Society, President of the Newcastle Memorial Library Aid, Vice-President of Newcastle Horticultural Society, President of Newcastle Ladies' Bowling Club, a member of the Public Library Board, an active member of the United Church W. A., and a member of the Church Parsonage and other committees. She will be sadly missed in all of these groups and organizations, for her presence was always pleasing, her counsels wise and helpful and her leadership inspiring to a high degree.

In all she undertook and in all she did she always showed an unselfish disinterestedness, her thought being always for the cause and never for self. She was a lover of all that was beautiful in art and nature and this devo- tion to beauty reflected itself brightly in her own life and deeds, and trained as a teacher in young womanhood she was eminently fitted for all the positions of trust and honour friends and citizens and fellow workers conferred upon her.
